Bring back Neighbourhood Watch and local crime fighters

 

It would be too easy to consign the worries of residents in Glenarvon Road, who raised the problems of they were having with crime, to the too-hard basket, telling them they need to get used to living in a city in 2013.

We should be grateful they have spoken out. 

When 40 people sign a petition and call for help from their councillor – in this case Raj Datta – it usually means something significant is happening.  We think it is.

Just yesterday, a Canberra indie punk Band Super Best Friends released a video where they rounded up the country’s leaders and campaign press to help them film their newest single, Round and Round.

Retail giant Westfield is calling on fashionistas around NSW to enter the competition by uploading a selfie (self portrait) in their “hottest outfit,” along with a description.

Burwood Westfield will also be awarding a weekly prize of a $100 gift card for the best selfie entered via its Facebook page (www.westfieldburwoodcomp.com).

Flemington Local Area Command has appointed a new Precinct Coordinator who will look after Strathfield's online community. 

Police have launched a new high-tech system to catch criminals from cyber space and alert residents.

And they have hired a 21-year-old student to help them turn Facebook and social media into anti-crime tools.

Joel Walker, a 21-year-old student at the Australian Catholic University, will be linking residents and businesses with police through online tools in his new role as Strathfield Precinct Officer.
