Strathfield MP Jodi McKay says light rail and Strathfield Town Centre should have been included in strategy.

For the seventh time in 17 years, a plan has been unveiled to revamp a tired and congested Parramatta Road.

Earlier this week, Planning Minister Rob Stokes released the draft Parramatta Road strategy which will allow around $28 billion worth of development over the next 30 years.

But while the housing targets have decreased from 50,000 to 40,000 new homes, Homebush will still bear the brunt of the development.

Allure Lab wins two awards at the 2015 award ceremony.

It was the night of nights for Strathfield businesses at the Inner West Local Business Awards.

There were over 30 Strathfield businesses who were nominated as finalists with three taking out awards for their excellent service to the community.

Cosgrove Smash Repairs was the first Strathfield business to win the Automotive Service category with the Strathfield Scene's Editor-In-Chief Peter Lynch presenting the award.

Shanahans Butler Solicitors won the Professional Service category for the second year in a row.

Strathfield MP Jodi McKay urges State Government to back Strathfield's Town Centre plan as part of the project

Premier Mike Baird was today reported to be ready to sign off on a $1 billion light rail network linking Parramatta to Strathfield.

The move, supported by Strathfield Council and local MP Jodi McKay as well as a group of prominent businessmen, would be good news for the area, promoting jobs and development.

Ms McKay told Ourstrathfield she was urging the State Government to support the Strathfield Town Centre redevelopment as part of the plan.  "Light rail could be the catalyst for this plan, which links transport to development," she said.

The State Government has made a promise to restart the consultation period for the WestConnex for residents and businesses along Parramatta Road in an astonishing about face.

Planning Minister Rob Stokes and Strathfield MP Jodi McKay announced that the State Government will start the consultations in October this year in an interview with the Scene and encouraged residents to take part.

It is a stunning win for Ms McKay, who is the new Labor MP but also the Shadow Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight.

State Opposition leader Luke Foley announced transport policy in Strathfield.

State opposition leader Luke Foley yesterday put Strathfield front and centre of Labor’s transport policy, announcing it will build a $1 billion light rail system from Western Sydney to Homebush.

The move came just a day after he was criticised for slashing Liberal NSW Government’s infrastructure spend by $10 billion and axing the WestConnex road tunnel under Strathfield.

The light rail option, he maintained, opens up Olympic Park as a centre for business and jobs.

Strathfield’s Mayor Daniel Bott, has announced he will make a bid to stand for the State seat of Strathfield as Labor candidate – immediately sparking speculation that two neighbouring mayors will battle it out for the same party ticket.

In an exclusive statement to the Strathfield Scene last night, Mr Bott finally confirmed his intention to run in any pre-selection for the seat of Strathfield.

Strathfield Station may be a hub for public transport in Western Sydney,  but it’s also one of the most dangerous and overcrowded, according to new figures.

Latest Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research statistics obtained by Sydney Daily Telegraph show personal crime offenses are six times higher at Western Line stations than those in the east and North Shore.

Strathfield, along with Blacktown and Parramatta, were in the top-five list for the number of offences recorded.

Strathfield cleaned up at this year’s awards with Devine Real Estate winning Real Estate Agency of the Year, the Strathfield Family Medical Centre winning Health Improvement Services and Shanahans Butlers Solicitors taking out the Professional Services Award.

Scheme will transform Strathfield's centre into a residential, commercial and entertainment hub

Strathfield has unveiled spectacular plans for a new $500 million town centre development – and revealed Chinese and Korean companies are lining up to carry out the work.

At least two companies have already expressed strong interest, undaunted by the half-billion price tag, according to council sources.

The stunning plans include a 6,000 sqm shopping precinct, a 700-seat theatre and two 30-storey residential towers.

A giant screen will show events to those outside on the Town Square.

Property prices in Strathfield remain strong

Strathfield has had another strong weekend of property sales with five homes and one apartment selling at auction.

The highest selling property was a six-bedroom house in Shortland Avenue which was sold by Devine Real Estate for $2.29 million.

Another three-bedroom house on Llandilo Avenue in Strathfield’s ‘Golden Mile’, sold for $2.17 million.

The ‘Golden Mile’ is characterised by it’s leafy wide streets, grand Victorian mansions, Californian bungalows and art deco homes.

Strathfield MP requests government funding for new cameras to stop graffiti vandals. 

It has been a running sore for travellers, police and council workers for years – thanks to graffiti vandals, who find its long concrete walls irresistible.

At one point there was so much graffiti art in the Strathfield station underpass it was hoped spray painters would be deterred. They weren’t.

Every year, thousands of volunteers hit Australia's streets, beaches and parks to pick up as much litter as they can. 

Every year, Strathfield Council choses a new park to focus their clean up efforts. 

For 2014, residents are encouraged to head down to Cooke Park in Belfield.

Premier and Minister's station visit seen as heralding an expansion of the Opal card

Premier Barry O'Farrell and Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian will be making a major transport announcment tomorrow at Strathfield Station - expected to be an expansion of the Opal Card.

They will be joined by Strathfield and Drummoyne MPs Charles Casuscelli and John Sidotti.

The card is currently is currently in use on Sydney Ferries, City Circle stations, Eastern suburbs and North Shore lines. An extension to the Inner West would be welcomed by commuters.

The Strathfield Spring Festival just got bigger and better - headlining the event is The Voice finalist, Simon Meli. 

Another two local music protegees have joined the lineup for the Strathfield Spring Festial - McDonald College primary students Jagger Alexander-Erber and Jeremy Yong. 

Both have appeared on the hit show, Australia's Got Talent where they both blew away the judges with their impressive musical skills.

Council breaks entrant record with 512 runners 

Despite the wet weather which hit Sydney over the weekend, over 500 runners turned up to compete at Strathfield Council's fourth annual Cooks River Fun Run. 

Council have broken their record with 512 entrants at yesterday's event. 

Muddy conditions and heavy rain didn't deter runners achieving their personal best.

With over 450 runners registered fro the event, council anticipate the number of this year's event to be close to 500.

Angry commuters have voted Strathfield as having the fourth worst station in the state on the CityRail network.

The list, which also included Town Hall, Central and Wynyard stations was revealed in the NRMA’s inaugural Seeing Red on Rail report.

More than 11,000 passengers took part in the online survey in the biggest non-government study undertaken of the network.

The most alarming find of the report was that more than a third of commuters said they didn’t feel safe at times at the station they most often used.

A woman with a cognitive impairment was indecently assaulted on a train by a man while she was sleeping.

A disabled woman was indecently assaulted on a train by a man while she was sleeping.

At around 3:30pm, the 23-year-old woman had gotten on a train at Auburn station and fell asleep.

She awoke to find a man indecently assaulting her.

Other commuters came to the aid of the woman and called the police as soon as the train arrived at Strathfield station.

The 42-year-old was taken to Auburn Police Station and will appear at Burwood Local Court.

Residents spruce up Strathfield

Despite the threat of a downpour, volunteer groups such as the Strathfield Rotary, Girl Guides, councillors and residents turned up as part of Clean Up Australia Day - the nation's largest community event. 

But even though the residents and groups managed to clean up Wentworth Street in Greenacre, Mayor Guilian Vaccari said he was disgraced by the amount of building material dumped in the area.

Smoke in a signal complex at Strathfield Station caused major delays for commuters this afternoon.

Trains on the Bankstown, Inner West, Airport & East Hills, South, North Shore, Western, Blue Mountains and Newcastle and Central Coast lines were affected.

Staff were evacuated and emergency services are currently investigating the cause.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, a fire in the airconditioner triggered the smoke alarm.

Transport for NSW has proposed to rejuvenate the station under a $770 million Transport Access Plan, which includes the relocation of the passenger information displays in the subway concourse.

“Work is needed to improve the accessibility and safety of the station,” said Strathfield MP Charles Casuscelli.

Council considers Town Centre clean up 

 

Strathfield rail station, the state’s third biggest travel hub with 40,000 commuters using it a day, is to get a major facelift.

The changes will see more space on the concourse, safety cameras and improved lighting and hygiene.

Additional funds for cleaning up the town centre entrance to improve the commuter experience are under consideration, although the extent of these changes is unclear.

Strathfield rail station is to get a major overhaul, with more space on the concourse, safety cameras and better lighting.

The move comes after representations to transport minister Gladys Berejiklian from Charles Casuscelli, MP for Strathfield.

 “Whenever I am out meeting with local residents Strathfield Station is always raised a top priority," Casuscelli said in a press release.
