Labor’s new leader Luke Foley lives at Concord West, and is well versed in the issues facing Inner West areas like Strathfield.

Within hours of taking up the reigns of party leadership, he announced a visit tio Strathfield with Labor contender Jodi McKay -  another indication that the Liberal-held seat is being targetted by the party.

Ironically, Mr Foley was touted as someone who might stand as Labor candidate for the Strathfield state seat once held by Labor minister Virginia Judge. Instead, he will contest neghbouring Auburn.

Former Strathfield Mp, Virginia Judge outraged by Labor candidate, Raj Datta

Friday 17 August: Strathfield Labor ticket leader Raj Datta has defended the use of pictures of former MP Virginia Judge on his website, after an anonymous tipster sent journalists claims that Judge was not endorsing him.

A statement, which was sent to the Scene earlier today from something called "The Tipoff" said Judge is ‘very angry and upset’ with the usage of the photos and Datta using them as endorsement material.

While the voters of our state appeared to have made up their minds early in the campaign between Kristina Keneally's tired Labor government and Barry O'Farrell's fresh-faced shadow ministry, the Strathfield electorate faced a harder choice.

In the red corner, a passionately active local member in Virginia Judge.  She has four times been Strathfield mayor. In eight years as State member she had certainly made her mark.

After years of complaints, the pleas for an upgrade from residents and locals are hopefully answered

Residents are wondering if a new plan to upgrade the Flemington Railway Station could be one of the first fatalities of the election campaign.

Member for Strathfield Virginia Judge has pledged $7,500 so the Tamil Resource Centre, are able to employ a community to work with socially isolated women from the Tamil community living in south-western Sydney.

 

“The Keneally government recognizes that many women in Sydney’s culturally and linguistically diverse community groups that can benefit from additional support,” she said.

In the last leg of the election campaign, Member for Strathfield Virginia Judge and was joined by the former Premier of New South Wales Bob Carr launch her campaign.

With only three weeks till the election, Judge addressed her constituency and said she would fight all the way to the close of polls on election day and doesn’t deny this election will be a tough fight.

New wire rope safety barriers to be installed

 

Member for Strathfield Virginia Judge announced Centenary Drive in Strathfield will be undergoing a safety overhaul.

 

The NSW government will install 700 metres of wire rope safety barriers on Centenary Drive between Arthur Street and Weeroona Drive.

 

The safety work is part of the NSW Government’s $170 million five-year Road Toll Response Package which was announced in March 2010.

Liberal candidate for Strathfield, Charles Casuscelli and Shadow Minister for Police Mike Gallacher assessed Strathfield Town Square in a bid to make Strathfield a safer place for businesses and residents.

 

Casuscelli said that under a Labor Government, Strathfield has seen an increase in criminal activity and Strathfield has become the fourth most dangerous station in the city rail network.

No candidate can agree on tackling crime in Strathfield. Policing Strathfield streets has long been a contentious issue.

Policing the streets of Strathfield has emerged as a major issue in the State election – but no candidate can agree on how to tackle local crime.

Only Independent Mark Sharma was prepared to pledge the return of the municipality’s police station, though Liberal contender Charles Casuscelli said he would “fight for the re-establishment of a fully functioning police station in Strathfield”.

He said a state Liberal government would review all police station locations.

A top fund raiser and a gold winning athlete took out Strathfield's top honours on Australia Day

The sausages sizzled. The sun shone. And 45 new Australian were sworn in at Strathfield Park this Australian Day as Strathfield turned out to honour its own.

Niall King, a tireless fund raiser and campaigner, took out two extraordinary honours - Strathfield Council's 2011 Citizen of the Year award and a Medal of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day Honours List.

Niall and his Rotarian team have helped raise more than $250,000 for Multiple Sclerosis in the past decade.

“The public transport system has deteriorated a lot under the present Labor Government. The people in the Inner West and especially Strathfield have been the biggest losers of bad Labor policies. Candidates go head to head

The $150 million redevelopment of Stathfield’s the town centre has won the backing of senior State Liberals - but received another attack from Labor MP Virginia Judge.

It is yet another signal that the plan is likely to be a major issue in next March’s State election.

The announcement, made first to the Scene, came after the strange on again, off again sale of the couple’s Strathfield family home and ended weeks of speculation by residents who had contacted reporters from the paper.

Judge and her husband issued a joint statement saying  “after a long period of separation, they are in the final stages of an amicable divorce.”

Strathfield local wins gold at the Commonwealth Games

FRESH from his gold medal performance at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, Strathfield gymnast Prashanth Sellathurai has agreed to become an ambassador for a major new sports-funding program for schools, it has been revealed.

Sellathurai, a member of Australia’s, winning gymnastic team in Delhi, has been recruited by the Premier’s Sporting Challenge, which educates school students about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and staying active.
