Business as usual for Strathfield's General Manager after debate over interim replacement

Mayor Ok briefs police at a meeting this week

Strathfield Council's veteran General manager was still at this desk today after Mayor Sang Ok presented a mayoral minute suggesting a stand-in was needed. David Backhouse told Ourstrathfield in response to questions that it was true his mother was ill - but he was continuing to work at this important time for council. Strathfield is on standby for the verdict in its future when the Baird government presents its local government reforms shortly. Earlier this week, Cr Ok presented an extraordinary meeting of the council with what was suggested as a leave request from Mr Backhouse and said Mr John Rayner, a former Sutherland Shire general manager, should be appointed in the interim. Earlier, another extraordinary meeting called by Cr Ok saw the police called when residents refused to clear the public gallery. Mr Backhouse maintained he had not yet asked for leave, but conceded he might have to do so if his mother's condition worsened. Ourstrathfield left a message for Cr Ok, but he could not reached for comment.
